Proposes BNP's Khoka as a step to save image of armed forces

Following the allegations of some of Rab members' involvement in different criminal activities, BNP leader Sadeque Hossain Khoka yesterday called for withdrawing military personnel from the elite force in a bid to save the image of the armed forces.
A conspiracy is being hatched to tarnish the image of the armed forces, said the BNP vice-chairman, addressing a rally at the capital's Jatiya Press Club to the protest corruption cases against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and her son Tarique Rahman.
“The army should take back its personnel from the Rab...We want to see a bright image of our army officials,” said Khoka, also BNP's Dhaka city unit convener.
The Rapid Action Battalion, which was formed in 2004 with members from police, army, navy, air force, Border Guard Bangladesh, and Ansar, has come into the spotlight following the allegations of some of its officials' involvement with the abduction and gruesome killings of seven people in Narayanganj late last month.

Speaking on the occasion, BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said the BNP had created the force to fight militancy and terrorism, but the incumbent government had spoiled it by using it for political purposes. He demanded the immediate disbandment of the Rab.
He also claimed that the cases against Khaleda aimed to keep her from politics.
