Prof Latifa Akanda, former teacher of Islamic History at Dhaka University, died following a short illness at Birdem Hospital, Dhaka yesterday. She was 89.
Born on November 01, 1925 in Netrokona, she studied at Lady Brabourne College, Calcutta later at SOAS, London University on Modern Indian History.
One of the founders of Women for Women, she was also associated with other NGOs, including Unity for Social and Human Action.
Wife of Zaminuddin Akanda, a scientist and metallurgist, she left behind three sons and a daughter.
Her namaz-e-zanaza will be held at Dhaka University Mosque today after Jumma prayers.
