Solo musical evening by Shantanu Biswas

A solo musical evening featuring singer Shantanu Biswas was held on October 18 in the port city. Ananada Sanskritik Angan hosted the programme titled “Ganey Ganey Hok Pran-er Binimoy” at Theatre Institute of Chittagong (TIC).
The event featured songs written and composed by the artiste himself.
The artiste's bold and lucid tune reflected his inner emotions. The musical started with a well-known Tagore song “Jibono Morono Shimana Chharaye”.
Later, the artiste rendered 15 songs set on his own composition. During the interval of performances, the artiste narrated the stories behind the lyrics composed by him.
Shantanu first presented “Shono Galpota, Ekhanei Shesh Noy” that he composed in 2008. Narrating his feelings, Shantanu said, he created the song when he experienced a human tragedy that year.
“For me, the theme of the song is relevant today in the wake of the Ramu mayhem,” he noted. Rendition of two songs “Nou Kachhey Nou
Durey” representing French melodic rhythm; and “Ekhaney Aamra Kajon Boshey Aachhi”, a jazz genre followed.
Later, the artiste presented “Neel Diye Bona Aakash Parer”, followed by performing a popular number “Chirkut-e Dekhi Chhoto Korey Lekha” through which he narrated his memorable past in “Charukala” (Fine Arts College). Following the performance, women's rights activist Begum Mushtari Safi handed over a crest along with a uttario to the artiste on behalf of "Angan", a cultural organisation that accords reception to a cultural personality every year.
Later, Shantanu presented one of his favourite songs “Postman” that earned him rounds of applause from the audience. Following the performance he rendered “Gaan-e Tara Onek”, “Ekdin Sabai” and “Haat Takey Chuyechho”.
The melody and the lyrics of the song “Thako Tumi Jani”, narrating the memories of a young visually impaired female singer, kept the packed audience spellbound. The evening rounded up with the presentation of one of his popular songs “Ka(n)thal Chapa”. Litan Mitra and Shyamal accompanied the artiste on tabla and violin respectively. Cultural activist Alam Korshed introduced the artiste at the beginning of the programme.
