Plot still on to kill PM
A conspiracy to assassinate Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is still going on to destroy the country's democracy and leave Awami league (AL) leaderless, said ruling AL General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam at a discussion yesterday.
“Repeated attempts were made to kill Sheikh Hasina after she returned home following the killing of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members on August 15, 1975.
"A group of miscreants even tried to kill her (Hasina) by mixing poison with her meals while she was imprisoned during the last caretaker government,” he said.
Awami Jubo League, an associate body of AL, organised the discussion at AL central office marking the 7th anniversary of August 21 grenade attack which left 24 AL leaders and activists including Ivy Rahman dead.
Ashraful, also the local government and rural development (LGRD) & co-operatives minister, said the conspirators are actively trying to implement the assassination's blueprint.
He directed the party leaders and workers to save Hasina and the country's democracy and stand against the conspirators. “It's our moral responsibility to save our leader Sheikh Hasina,” he said.
Criticising the threat by BNP and its alliance to uproot the government, Ashraful, also spokesperson of the AL-led grand alliance government, said such threats are not good for democracy.
State Minister for LGRD and Co-operatives Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Jubo League acting chairman Harunur Rashid presided over the discussion where its General Secretary Mirza Azam and lawmaker Nurun Nobi Chowdhury Shaon also spoke.
