Assault on Journo

One arrested

Police early yesterday arrested one of the two brothers, who allegedly beat up a female journalist of ABC Radio on July 31, from a lane in the city's Kathalbagan area.
A Dhaka court sent the arrested Saifur Rahman Sappu, 35, to jail after he was shown arrested under section 54 (under suspicion of involvement in criminal activities).
Police said they arrested Saifur, owner of a furniture shop Mohammadi Enterprise in Panthapath, around 3:10am while he was roaming there suspiciously.
Saifur was involved in criminal activities and harassing women in the area for long, said police.
Saifur and his younger brother Shahadat Hossain Seku were sued on August 2 after an order issued by Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court on August 1 as police earlier insisted the journalist to file a GD.
He said Saifur and Shahadat obtained bail in the case on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Sub-Inspector Sheikh Tajuddin Ahmed, investigation officer of the case, was closed on Thursday night as he failed to arrest the accused brothers.
The journalist told The Daily Star on August 2 that Saifur hit her with his motorbike from behind in front of Victoria University in the afternoon of July 31 while returning home from work.
