Watercolour Camp in Lalmatia
Shilpanu School of Fine Arts has organised a one and a half month long watercolour workshop at Lalmatia in Dhaka. The workshop began on April 19 and will continue till May 20. Veteran painter Monirul Islam inaugurated the workshop and showed slides of his works and Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin. Islam also briefly discussed on watercolour techniques, process and style of application.
Eminent watercolourists Biren Shome and Alakesh Ghosh are conducting the workshop. Faizul Kabir and Shohag Parvez are the coordinators of the workshop. The workshop's main aim is to popularise the medium among the promising painters of the country.
Biren Shome said, “The popularity of watercolour is on the wane. Nowadays watercolour exhibitions are few and far between. The medium has an interesting trait that can effectively depict our nature and seasons.
“Gallery owners and the Faculty of Fine Arts should take initiative in this regard. A grand group watercolour exhibition should be organised in the city yearly.”
At the workshop, participating painters are the students of Faculty of Fine Arts (University of Dhaka), Narayanganj Fine Arts Institute, Chittagong Art College and University of Development Alternative in Dhaka. Participating painters are visiting several sites in the city to get inspiration. Following the workshop, Shilpanu School of Fine Arts will organise a group art exhibition in the city.
