5 kids drown in Kushtia, Rajbari
In two separate incidents in Kushtia and Rajbari today, five children met their death by drowning.
Of them, three drowned in Kushtia, while two in Rajbari, report our district correspondents.
In Kushtia, bodies of the three children were recovered from Barkhada water body on the outskirts of the district down at about 5:30pm, seven hours after they went missing.
They are Likhon Rahman, 5, Sakil Hossain, 7, and Tarun Hossain, 6. Likhon and Sakil were cousins.
Family members said the children went missing around 10:30am when they went out of house.
Locals found their floating bodies at a dig well of Barkhada water body at about 5:30pm.
Abdul Khalequ, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kushtia Model Police Station, said the three might have gone there to collect water lilies and drowned when they took a dip in the water.
The bodies have been sent to the Kushtia Medical College Hospital morgue.
The Rajbari victims were identified as Dola Khatun, 7, and Subarna Khatun, 6, of Mohadevpur village in the Sadar upazila.
Family sources said the two went to a pond at the village to take a bath and eventually drowned.
Family members and the locals started searching for them when they went missing around 7:30am and found the bodies in the pond at about 1:30pm.
Atiar Rahman, chairman of Mizanpur Union Parishad confirmed the matter to our correspondent.
