Kushtia triple murder case: Court frames charges against ASI Shoumen
A Kushtia court has framed charges against Assistant Sub-inspector Shoumen Kumar Roy -- the lone accused in a sensational triple murder case.
Shoumen Roy appeared in court yesterday at the last minute. Sheikh Abu Taher, the District and Sessions Judge of Kushtia, read out the charges of the three murders at the time, reports our local correspondent.
The court framed charges against Shoumen after he pleaded not guilty. Witnesses would be called on any date set by the court, he said.
Shoumen killed Asma (25), her son Robin (7), and Shakil Khan (26), in front of the customs office in Kushtia town, on June 13 last year.
On June 14, Shoumen confessed in a local court to committing the crimes.
He told the court that he killed the three out of anger. He, however, regretted killing the 7-year-old Robin.
Shoumen made the confessional statement to Kushtia Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Rezaul Karim, said Nishikant Saha, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Kushtia Model Police Station, and also the investigation officer of the two cases filed in connection with the incident.
The court recorded the statement under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. The judge later sent Shoumen to jail.
Shoumen has been in jail since the incident.
Shoumen, in his confessional statement earlier, claimed to be Asma's husband. He wanted to take Asma to Khulna, but she did not agree, he claimed. He also suspected that Asma was in a relationship with Shakil, a mobile financial service agent. Shoumen told a magistrate that he, on June 13, repeatedly asked Asma about her relationship with Shakil. As she kept mum, he pulled a pistol and shot her in the head, leaving her dead on the spot. He also shot Shakil -- who was declared dead after locals took him to a nearby hospital. As the child, Robin, ran to a nearby mosque, the ASI dragged him out and shot him too -- leaving him dead on the spot.
