Book reading service on web starts
Bishwo Shahitto Kendro (BSK) launched its online book reading programme “Alor Pathshala” (school of enlightenment) on its premises in the capital yesterday.
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid inaugurated the programme.
Alor Pathshala is the first of its kind launched by BSK. Grameenphone sponsored the programme.
Under the service, people will get the opportunity to read 72 local and international classics, all published by the Kendro, after downloading those from the website www.alorpathshala.org.
Readers have to register first to get access to an online library and download the books free. Those who will read four books from the library and pass an online quiz will receive a printed book as gift via courier.
Founder of Bishwo Shahitto Kendro Prof Abdullah Abu Sayeed said this step was taken to meet the demand of time. "Our mobile libraries are yet to reach every part of the country. But this online programme can surpass the feat of mobile libraries and can reach everywhere."
Grameenphone's head of corporate communications Syed Tahmid Azizul Haque and ICT expert Mustafa Jabbar, among others, spoke on the occasion.
