2 labour leaders of state-owned jute mills picked up in Khulna
Two labour leaders of the recently closed state-owned jute mills have been picked up by some people "impersonating law enforcers" in Khulna.
Waliar Rahman, a worker and convener of Jute Industry Protection Youth Alliance of Eastern Jute Mill, and Nur Islam, a worker and an adviser of Jute Industry Protection Youth Alliance of Platinum Jubilee Jute Mill Workers, were picked up from their houses in Khulna city on Sunday night.
Nur Islam's son Md Jewel said some people came to their house in Khalishpur area around 3:30pm on Sunday and asked them to open the door, saying there was a fire.
"When we asked for their identities, they introduced themselves as firefighters. Then, they took my father away," he said.
Naeem Sheikh, son of Waliar Rahman, said that nine people came to their house in Mashiyali village around 2:30pm on Sunday and forced them to open the door.
"They had a walkie-talkie and rifle in their hands. When we opened the door, they said they will go to jute mill with my father. They took off in a hurry," he said.
