Prasoon Pandey and Cyrus Pagdiwala on ADFA Talk Fest
Advertising Filmmakers Association (ADFA) is the union for the existing and potential advertising filmmakers of Bangladesh. Recently, ADFA Talk Fest, a live show featuring versatile filmmakers, was arranged, focusing on different creative ideas.
Last week, renowned Indian ad filmmaker duo Prakash Varma and Sneha Ipe of Nirvana films joined in a live session from the ADFA Facebook page.
This week, award-winning ad filmmaker Prasoon Pandey, and executive producer Cyrus Pagdiwala from Corcoise Films India participated on the show from The Daily Star Facebook page.
Prasoon's advertising career began as a creative director. For his directorial debut, he won the Best Debut Director, Best Director, Best Script, Best Music, Best Cinematography and the Best Film awards at the Indian Advertising Filmmaker's awards, IAAFA, in 1995.
On the show, Prasoon talked about his experiences, achievements and lessons from the industry. Hosted by Piplu R Khan and Anam Biswas, the interactive show delved into the artistic and aesthetic thoughts of ad making.
"I really enjoy advertising, I'm lucky that I get to work on different things and all my commercials are short stories," shared Prasoon, who has 700-800 commercials to his credit.
Considered to be among the top 25 advertising film directors in the World, Prasoon has bagged several international awards, including Clio's, Cannes Lions, New York Festivals and Asia Pacific Ad Fest Lotuses.
"Our subcontinent is so rich in culture and there is so much to see. I am a huge fan of what is happening around us and I like to learn from it," shared Prasoon.
Cyrus Pagdiwala is a reputed executive producer and the general secretary of the Association of Advertising Producer of India. Cyrus and Prasoon have been working together for nearly 25 years and Cyrus shared anecdotes about their friendship and experiences they've lived together.
Cyrus has 400 films to his credit, shot all over the world. He talked about his collaborations and the challenges he faced.
Prasoon and Cyrus also participated in an interactive session with young directors Abrar Athar, Shankha Dasgupta and Krishnendu Chattopadhyay.
"I should not make a film because everyone is telling me to. I want to make a film when I find a story which is brilliant, out of the park and something I want to share with the world," says Prasoon about his plans to make a full-length feature film.
Spending time at home, both the director and the producer shared their insights, and said that the isolation has allowed everyone to take some time out to reconnect with each other.
Shedding light on the healthy competitions among filmmakers, accepting the new generation of creative directors, shared values learned from theatre and more, the interactive live session inspired the new and aspiring directors to follow their passion and ideas.
