‘PM lifted general holidays considering people’s livelihoods’
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina decided, in consultation with experts, not to prolong the nationwide general holidays amid the ongoing coronavirus crisis considering the livelihoods of people, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader today said.
"In consultation with experts, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has decided not to extend general holidays, and resume public transport with conditions aimed at keeping the people's livelihoods smooth apart from protecting their lives," he said.
Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, said this while speaking at a views-exchange meeting through videoconferencing from his official residence here.
The Bangladesh Road Transportation Authority (BRTC) held the meeting with transport owners and workers at its Banani office in the city.
The road transport and bridges minister said the suspension of transport came to contain the spread of coronavirus.
Though deaths from Covid-19 and coronavirus transmission reached alarming levels in many countries, they relaxed the lockdown
considering the overall situation, he added.
