Mobile court sentences two to six months’ imprisonment

A mobile court of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) on Monday night sentenced two traders to six months’ imprisonment for selling onions of OMS in the black market.

The traders are: Sekander Ali Akhand, owner of Jamil Banijyalay at Sadeque Khan Krishi Market in Mohammadpur and its manager Konkon Bhawal.

Everyday Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) provides 3,000kg onions to a dealer for selling in Open Market Sale (OMS) at a price of Tk 35 per kg.

The onion of the OMS was sold to the traders by Asad, a worker of OMS,  near Secretariat at a price of Tk 45 per kg -- Tk 10 higher than OMS’ fixed price, said executive magistrate of Rab Sarwoer Alam.

He said they arrested the duo upon receiving information on it.

Asad sold the OMS onions to black market several times, Sarwoer added.

These onions were sold at Tk 60 in wholesale market after purchasing it in low price.

Police are taking preparation to file a case in this regard, said Sarwoer.
