Mahfuz Anam, Naem Nizam new president, secy of Shampadak Parishad

Mahfuz Anam, editor and publisher of The Daily Star, and Naem Nizam, editor of Bangladesh Protidin, have been elected as new president and general secretary of Shampadak Parishad (Editors’ Council) respectively.

The Shampadak Parishad, in a meeting held at The Daily Star Centre today, formed its new executive committee for the next two years. The new committee includes five office-bearers and four executive committee members, said a press release of the editors’ council.

The tenure of the new executive committee will begin from October 1, 2019, according to the press release.

Other names of the new body are Vice President- Tasmima Hossain, editor of Bangla daily Ittefaq, Assistant General Secretary Dewan Hanif Mahmud, editor and publisher of Bonik Barta, and Treasurer Mustafiz Shafi, acting editor of Bangla daily Shamakal.

The members of the Parishad are Manabzamin Editor Matiur Rahman Chowdhury, Jugantor acting editor Saiful Alam, Bhorer Kagoj Editor Shymal Dutta, and Dainik Azadi Editor M.A. Malek.

The Parishad, in the meeting, also decided to launch a website of the institution, recruit new members and organise seminars and events on press freedom and other journalism-related issues.

It plans to hold a seminar in the coming months on strengthening the future of the print media and related challenges. It was also decided that the Parishad will expand its activities and membership at the district level.

It may be recalled that Sampadak Parishad was founded in 2013 to play an active role in protecting press freedom, developing professional journalism and strengthening the editorial institution.

The Founding President of Sampadak Parishad was Former Editor of the Samakal Late Golam Sarwar, who unfortunately passed away in 2018.
