10,000 metres of illegal net seized from Halda river
A mobile court seized 10,000 metres of illegal fishing net from Halda River in Hathazari upazila of Chattogram yesterday.
The nets were seized during a drive led by Ruhul Amin, upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) of the upazila.
Ruhul Amin said, the nets were being used to catch indigenous carp fishes illegally.
However, owners of the nets could not detained as they fled the scene.
“Halda is a unique river and the lone natural breeding ground of indigenous carp fishes in the country,” Ruhul said.
“Illegal fishing in the river destroys the mother fishes,” he also said, adding drives would continue to protect the mother fishes in the river.
