Celebrating researcher-author Ghulam Murshid
Author and researcher Ghulam Murshid is an exceptional writer in Bangla literature who has made his mark in almost all genres, National Professor Anisuzzaman said yesterday.
Murshid wrote many books on several literary figures, including Kazi Nazrul Islam and Rabindranath Tagore, on the history of Bangla literature and so on, Prof Anisuzzaman added.
“He showed us a new path, and set a new standard. One could say Ghulam Murshid is a rare researcher,” he said at a ceremony in the capital's Bangla Academy.
Publishing house Kothaprokash organised the event on the occasion of Murshid's 80th birthday, to be celebrated on April 8.
Murshid, a Bangladeshi author who currently resides in the UK, is known for his research-based writing, particularly the biographies of Kazi Nazrul Islam and Michael Madhusudan Dutta.
Speaking at the ceremony, Prof Shamsuzzaman Khan, former director general of Bangla Academy, said the biographies alone are enough to keep Murshid alive in public memory.
Noted fiction writer Prof Hasan Azizul Huq said the writings of Murshid are not only enjoyable read, but also educational.
In his speech, Ghulam Murshid said, “I have many more books to write. I want to work till my last breath,” he added.
Bangla Academy Director General Habibullah Siraji, Dhaka University's Prof Bismadeb Chowdhury, Rajshahi University's Prof Swarochish Sarker and Kathaprokash publisher Jasim Uddin also spoke at the ceremony.
