Flydubai to resume Ctg flights
Flydubai is set to resume flights connecting the port city of Chattogram to Dubai on January 20 next year after a break of six months.
The low-cost airline will charge a minimum of AED 1,500 (Tk 34,013) as economy class return fares to Chattogram while it will be $490 (Tk 40,804) to Dubai, the company said in a statement yesterday.
Beginning operations in 2009, the carrier entered Bangladesh's growing air travel market in January 2011, starting off from Chattogram's Shah Amanat International Airport.
Later, it expanded flights to Dhaka and Sylhet before suspending operations in all three destinations from Dubai, officials of the company in Dhaka said.
The Dhaka services stopped in March this year followed by Chattogram in June and Sylhet in September.
Ismail Chowdhury, managing director of Sky Aviation, which is flydubai's general sales agent, said the previous operations witnessed a 95 percent load factor. “We will thrive for better load factor.”
The carrier will be the second foreign one after Air Arabia to offer flights to the United Arab Emirates, a major destination of Bangladeshi migrant workers.
Domestic carriers Biman, Regent and US-Bangla Airlines also offer flights to the Middle East from Bangladesh.
The budget carrier goes to over 90 destinations in 45 countries across Africa, Central Asia, Central and South-East Europe, the Middle East and the Indian subcontinent.
It said Emirates would codeshare, a co-operative arrangement allowing passengers to use a ticket from one airline to travel on another, on this route as part of a partnership announced in July 2017.
For bookings under the codeshare, Emirates passengers will receive complimentary meals.
Over the years, air travel has been growing. The number of international travellers increased 9 percent year-on-year to 64.77 lakh in 2017, according to data of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh.
