Court accepts charges against wife, another
A Rangpur court yesterday accepted a charge sheet against two persons in a case filed for killing lawyer Rathish Chandra Bhowmik.
On September 13, police submitted the charge sheet against his wife Snigdha Bhowmik and her colleague Kamrul Islam.
According to the charge sheet, extramarital affairs between the two accused, who were teachers of a high school in Tajhat area, led to the murder. Snigdha and Kamrul gave their confessional statements before the court in April, said Al Amin, the case's investigation officer.
On March 29, Snigdha drugged her husband at his Tajhat residence in the city. Later, the two accused suffocated him to death, says the charge sheet. His body was dumped into a pit inside an under construction building in Tajhat Mollahpara area. On April 4, Rab recovered the body.
Yesterday, the case was transferred to District and Sessions Judge Court from Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Court, court sources said.
The next hearing date of the case is October 2.
Sushanta Bhowmik, brother of the deceased, filed a murder case with Rangpur Kotwali Police Station on April 5, accusing five persons including Snigdha and Kamrul.
Rathish's driver Milan Mohanta, one of accused, died at prison. Police excluded two other accused, aged around 17, from the charge sheet.
