25-km tailback on Dhaka-Ctg highway

Eid Journey Traffic Jam on Dhaka-Chittagong highway

Hundreds of passengers were stuck in a 25-kilometre tailback on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway today.

The tailback that ensued on Wednesday stretched from Meghna-Gumti Bridge toll plaza to Jinglatoli in Daudkandi upazila, reports our Comilla correspondent quoting Sub-inspector of Illiotgonj Highway Police outpost Abdullah.

The jam started after crossing Chandina area towards Dhaka, said Dipu a passenger of Asia Line.

Thousands of trucks, covered vans and goods carrying vehicles created pressure on the highway towards Dhaka ahead of Eid-ul-Azha to be celebrated on August 22.

However, pressure on Meghna Bridge is now reducing and vehicles are slowly moving both sides of the Dhaka-Chittagong highway, said Alamgir Hossain, officer-in-charge of Bhaberchor highway outpost in Munshiganj.
