Mobile court attacked for jailing rice hoarder
A mobile court of Chittagong district administration came under attack yesterday after it sentenced a businessman to jail for illegally hoarding rice in Chittagong city's Chaktai area.
Didarul Alam, manager of Hazi Bodiur Rahman and Sons, was jailed for three months and fined Tk 1 lakh for hoarding more rice than he was supposed to and for selling the food grain at higher prices.
Soon after Executive Magistrate Sayed Morad Ali pronounced the verdict, a group of people attacked the court and tried to snatch the convict, said the magistrate.
The court comprised 10 people including five police personnel, he added.
On information, a police reinforcement and a team of Rapid Action Battalion rushed in and detained one Jahidul Islam for obstructing the court from discharging its duty.
The detainee was sentenced to one month's jail for the attack.
