Shakoo seeks stay in graft trial against him

Newly-elected mayor of Comilla City Corporation Monirul Hoque Shakoo filed a petition to the High Court today seeking stay on the trial of a corruption case against him.

In the petition he prayed to the HC to issue a rule asking the Anti-Corruption Commission and the government to explain why the trial proceeding of the case against Shakoo should not be scrapped.

Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) lawyer advocate Khurshid Alam Khan told The Daily Star that the HC may hold hearing on the petition tomorrow.

The ACC filed the case with Ramna police station against Sakku and his wife for amassing illegal wealth worth Tk 4.23 crore.
