Protest continues in Mymensingh
More than 20,000 people of seven villages in Mymensingh brought out a procession in the town yesterday, demanding exemption of their homesteads and farmlands from acquisition.
They have been protesting the proposed land acquisition for the development of Mymensingh division for over a month under the banner of Basotbhita and Fasolijami Rokkha Committee, said the villagers.
Addressing the rally, the speakers said there are vast char lands on both sides of the Brahmaputra river but the local administration targeted the densely populated char areas.
The villagers repeatedly urged the administration to implement the first phase covering 1220 acres of land for divisional activities but they did not pay any heed to them, they said.
Later, they submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner to meet the demand.
