PERFORMER OF THE DAY
MEHEDI HASAN
If there were any doubts left, surely Mehedi Hasan proved that he is the real deal with a sublime performance with the cherry on the second day of the second Test against England yesterday. While few would have expected him to match his performance from the first Test when he enthralled Chittagong with seven wickets over two innings -- including six in the first innings – Mehedi pulled off another spellbinding display yesterday. The 19-year-old did most of the heavy lifting, taking six wickets in his 28 overs and becoming only the second spinner to take consecutive fifers in his first two Tests. In doing so, he added some of England's more coveted scalps to his burgeoning collection. England captain Alastair Cook was Mehedi's first victim, falling prey to a leg before decision after Bangladesh opted for a review, before he found Gary Ballance's edge. He also did in the in-form Moeen Ali, who was bowled attempting a sweep and also picked up the wickets of Jonny Bairstow and Zafar Ansari before ending England's fantastic ninth-wicket stand with a peach of a delivery with the new ball that saw Chris Woakes caught at leg slip.
