Fake NID cards seized, 2 held

Police arrested two youths from a computer shop in Sadar upazila of the district on Wednesday on charge of making fake national identity cards for registering SIM cards.

The arrestees are Md Shakil Sheikh, 22, son of Abdul Khaleq Sheikh of Bhaijora village in Sadar upazila, and Sadi Mahmud, 24, son of Fakhrul Islam of Ikri village in Bhandaria upazila.

Shakil is a worker of Confidence Office Machineries shop where fake national IDs are prepared and Sadi is an employee of mobile phone operator Airtel in Pirojpur office.

The law enforcers also seized a computer, 44 pages of prepared national ID copies and 14 pages top sheets. Each paper contains six ID card documents.

On secret information, a police team raided Confidence Office Machineries shop in the district town at night and arrested the duo.

Of the arrestees, Shakil said they have taken order of making these fake ID cards from adjacent Airtel office authority.

A case was filed, accusing four men including the arrestees, said Md Masumur Rahman Biswas, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station.

The other two accused are Jewel and Atikur Rahman, territory managers of Airtel. They went into hiding.
