Joy turns to pain
An overly-excited celebration after taking a wicket has ended Olly Stone’s season, Northamptonshire confirmed today.
Stone was so thrilled when he had Worcestershire’s Moeen Ali caught behind in the fourth over of a T20 match on Friday, that he leapt with delight and punched his fist into the air.
However, upon completing a rather awkward landing on his knee, he collapsed in a heap. The 22-year-old, not knowing the extent of the damage, attempted to complete the over but was unable to do so.
He then had to be carried off the field. After the initial scans and an assessment by an orthopaedic knee surgeon, Northamptonshire confirmed that Stone had damaged his ACL and cartilage.
