13 BNP-Jamaat men sent to jail in Dinajpur
Thirteen BNP-Jamaat men, accused in the cases for attacking Hindus and torching their houses and shops at Kornai village in Dinajpur Sadar upazila during the parliamentary elections on January 5 last year, were sent to jail on Thursday.
The accused are Rafiqul Islam, 40, Faruk Hossain, 27, Jalal Member, 40, Rezu Mia, 22, Munu Mia, 26, Moinul Islam, 33, Sarwar Hossain, 35, Babu Mia, 22, and Shahin Alam, 22 of BNP; and Anisur Rahman, 38, Yousuf Ali, 40, Abdur Razzak, 42 and Abdur Rahim, 40, of Jamaat.
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) filed two cases against 87 BNP, Jamaat and Shibir leaders and activist with Sadar Police Station on January 7, 2014 for attacking and torching the houses of Hindus at Kornai village on the election day.
After investigation, the CID pressed charges against the accused in April this year and the court issued arrest warrants against them.
Thirteen out of 87 charge-sheeted accused appeared before the District and Sessions Judge's Court, Dinajpur, in the afternoon, seeking bail.
Judge Md. Hossain Shahid rejected the bail prayers of BNP-Jamaat men and sent them to jail.
