THE WEEKENDER

Tête-à-Tête with Sharmin Lucky

a02Remember the ever-smiling face of the impeccably dressed lady in “Siddika Kabir's Recipe”, the cooking show aired every Wednesday on ntv? The easygoing charm of Sharmin Nahar Lucky along with a buffet of delectable dishes created by Siddika Kabir herself was the recipe for the show's success. Since then Lucky has come a long way. While luck has favoured her, she certainly has the talent to claim her place in the limelight.

In a recent chat with The Daily Star, Lucky takes us behind the scenes to give us a glimpse of everyday activities.

How do you spend your weekends?

Sharmin Lucky: Life was much busier when our son, Shayer was around. He has just joined a university in Melbourne, Australia. Since then weekends are much slower, and pretty much revolve around spending time with either my family or my husband's family. We also make a lot of video calls to our son through Skype.

What about weekdays?

Sharmin Lucky: Weekdays race by and I have to struggle to organise my schedule as most of the activities seem to overlap. However, whenever an opportunity arrives in the form of voice recording it gets my highest priority. Singing or lending my voice will always remain a higher priority for me than the audio visual world. I prefer to work on weekdays and I tend to get quite annoyed when I am invited to lunch parties on weekdays!

TDS: Any tips for our readers on how to you take care of your health and beauty with such a busy schedule, especially in this sultry weather?

Sharmin Lucky: My first advice to all would be to drink plenty of water. Personally I love green coconut water and have it throughout the day to help me get through the sweltering heat. Eating the right food is also crucial in this season to avoid getting digestive disorders. Including fish, fresh fruits and vegetables in our diet is essential. Likewise, we must avoid deep-fried food and red meat. Avoid rich desserts after meal and opt for a bowl of natural yoghurt instead. Exercises always seem like a chore which is why swimming is a great idea for workout this summer. Not only does it relax our nerves and diminishes stress but it also trims the extra fat and improves muscle tone. Wear light fabrics, preferably cotton to allow your skin to breathe. Light pastel shades are also good to reflect back the heat and soothing for the eyes. Last but not the least, do not forget to spritz on your favourite perfume. If you happen to run out of perfume, just grab a few garlands of jasmine (beli) on your way and wrap them around your wrist. They will work just as well, if not better!
