Weeklong Francophonie festival begins
The annual Francophonie festival, a weeklong programme to celebrate the French language and the International Organisation of Francophonie, began at Alliance Française in the capital yesterday.
The festival will include a football match between African Francophone professional footballers and the under-23 Bangladeshi national football team, film festival, an exhibition and a talk on French language.
The diplomatic missions of seven French speaking nations made the announcement at a press conference at Alliance Française yesterday.
The diplomatic missions of the seven French speaking countries represented in Dhaka, namely Canada, Egypt, France, Morocco, Switzerland, Vietnam and for the first time Qatar, a new member of the Francophonie, are organising the series of cultural events in the festival from March 13 to March 22.
The football match will be held on March 16 at 3:00pm on Jagannath Hall playground of Dhaka University.
