Syed Jahangir's solo drawing exhibition at Shilpangan Gallery

a04Shilpangan Contemporary Art Gallery in Dhanmondi, is to organise a solo drawing exhibition titled “Ink Drawing, Drawing and Colour”, featuring the works of celebrated artist Syed Jahangir. The exhibition will open on May 1, and will run till May 7. The show commemorates Shilpangan's founder Faiz Ahmad's 85th birth anniversary.

The exhibition will be inaugurated by noted columnist and former diplomat Faruk Chaudhury. Rokeya Quader, chairperson of Shilpangan Trust; Shahidullah Khan Badal, publisher of New Age; theatre activist Aly Zaker; renowned artist Rafiqun Nabi and poet Belal Chowdhury will also speak on the occasion.

a05The USP of Jahangir's drawings is a profound observation of rural Bengal, its people and the economic challenges they suffer. At the show, ink-based drawing and watercolour will be displayed.

Jahangir not only depicts our beautiful country, but some of his drawings also depict social and environmental issues like river erosion, suffering of underprivileged people, hardships of farmers, fishermen, boatmen and more. As a socially conscious artist, he picks up a number of themes that are closely connected to the rural people. Jahangir is also a romantic painter in his way of expression. In his drawings, he has attempted to recreate the memorable atmosphere of the river at night.
