Attack on journo protested

Newsmen of the district formed a human chain in front of the press club in the town yesterday, demanding arrest of the attackers of Prothom Alo's Tangail correspondent Kamonashish Shekhor. Kamonashish, also vice president of the press club, was seriously injured in an attack by criminals in Saha Para area of the town on Friday noon. As per three-day protest programmes of the local journalists, they will submit a memorandum to the deputy commissioner today in favour of their demand. The participants expressed concern as the law enforcers are yet to arrest the criminals into the attack on Kamonashish. Police said they were raiding different areas to arrest the attackers.

Hilsa seized in Benapole

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh seized 2080 kgs of hilsa fish worth Tk 62.40 lakh from Sadipur border area here yesterday. A patrol team of BGB, on a tip-off, raided the border area in the early hours and seized the hilsa fish while those were being smuggled to India, said 26 BGB commanding officer Lt Col Matiur Rahman. However, the smugglers managed to flee, sensing the presence of the border guards. The seized fish were later deposited to Benapole Customs godown and a case was filed in this connection.

Ex-BGB man electrocuted

A former member of Boarder Guard Bangladesh (BGB) was electrocuted while he was switching on his irrigation pump's motor near his homestead at Doljor village of Aditmari upazila yesterday. Quoting the family members, police said, Yusuf Ali, 55, met the fatal accident at noon when he touched the motor which was having short-circuit due to loose connection.

2 kids drown in Pabna

Two children drowned in a pond at Baghhasla in Ishwardi upazila on Friday evening. The deceased were identified as Sumaiya Khatun, 3, daughter of Jahurul Islam and Chhanda Khatun, 3, daughter of Selim Hossain of the village. Sources said, Sumaiya and Chhanda slipped into the pond and drowned while playing near it around 5:00pm. After a frantic search, local people recovered the bodies from the pond in the evening.
