Shibir man killed in Chuadanga cop firing
An activist of Islami Chhatra Shibir was killed in a police firing when the Shibir men vandalised a puja mondop in Damurhuda upazila of Chuadanga this afternoon.
Rafiqul Islam, 23, a Kamil student of Badarganj Baqi Billah Madrasa, hailed from of Boalia village Damurhuda upazila.
Abdur Rahim Shah, Chuadanga superintendent of police, said around 100 shibir activists brought out a procession in Darshna town at about 3:45pm as part of the organisation’s countrywide programme demanding release of Shibir president Delwar Hossain.
Parading different areas of Darshana, the Shibir activists gathered at Darshana bus stand area.
On information, a team from Damurhuda Police Station rushed to the spot and asked the Shibir men to leave the spot.
“The Shibir activists left the spot and took position at Haltchadpur, near to the Carew and Company, and vandalised Carew Sarbajanin Puja Mondop.
Police fired several tear sells but failed to disperse the unruly Shibir men.
Then police opened fire from shot gun leaving Rafiqul dead on the spot.
Around 10 shibir activists were also injured in the incident.
Chuadanga SP Abdur Rahim Shah, who was present at the spot, said that Shibir men had preparation for communal attack.
Additional policemen were deployed at different points of Darshana.
