Shakib signs with Leicester
Ace Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has signed with Leicestershire to play in this year's Friends Life T20 Cup in England. The tournament, which begins on June 26, will be the 26-year-old's third appearance for an overseas team, following his stints with the Knight Riders and Worcestershire.
Shakib, who has been out of international cricket since November last year and is currently recovering from a stress fracture on his left shin, will play alongside Australia's Joe Burns as the club's second overseas player. Josh Cobb, who was Shakib's teammate in the Bangladesh Premier League , will also feature for Leicestershire. Pakistan allrounder Abdul Razzaq and West Indian batsman Ramnaresh Sarwan are the prominent players who had earlier played for the club.
With regard to Shakib's signing, Leicestershire's coach Phil Whitticase, said, "I'm really pleased that we have been able to sign a player who was recently ranked the best one-day player in the world. Shakib's record is exceptional and I am looking forward to him helping us to achieve success.”
Leicestershire were crowned the champions of the T20 tournament in 2011. They have won the competition three times so far.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board confirmed that they had provided the player with a no-objection certificate. The left-hander is expected to recover in time for Bangladesh's tour of Zimbabwe, which is scheduled to begin on April 17.
