'Robber' shot dead after stabbing of two policemen
A suspected robber was killed in a police firing in Dinajpur district on Sunday.
Away in Sirajganj, a robbery was held at government quarter of Kazipur upazila parishad yesterday.
In Dinajpur, police opened fire on the robbers at Nitaishah village in Ghoraghat upazila when they stabbed two policemen, reports our correspondent.
The deceased was identified as Md Shamidul Islam, 35, son of Khalil Uddin of Puranpoil village in Joypurhat Sadar upazila.
The injured policemen are assistant sub-inspector Md Zabed Ahmed and constable Mohammad Zia of Ghoraghat police station. They were admitted to Dinajpur Medical College and Hospital.
Zahidul Islam, officer in-charge of the PS, said on secret information, a team of police, led by ASI Zabed raided the area where a gang of 13/15 was committing robbery there.
Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the gang attacked them with sharp weapons, leaving the ASI and the constable injured.
In self defense, police opened fire on the robbers, leaving one dead on the spot and another two injured. However, the injured managed to flee.
A case was filed accusing 12 to 15 unidentified people in this connection, said the OC.
Meanwhile, robbers looted cash, gold ornaments and other valuables from the quarter of Kazipur upazila parishad in Sirajganj district early yesterday, reports our Pabna correspondent.
A gang swooped on six houses of Ichamoti and Modhumoti colony in the UP at around 1:00am and looted 17 tolas gold ornaments, Tk 60,000 and few mobile sets at gunpoint,.
Two residents were also injured in an attack by the robbers as they tried to resist them, said Motiar Rahman, officer in-charge at Kazipur police station. The gang then exploded a cocktail and fled the scene.
Of the injured, Md Shahidul Islam was admitted to the upazila health complex while the rest given first aid.
The affected house owners include Md Johurul Islam, Sabedul Islam, Raihan Alam Khandaker, Shafikul Islam and Abu Bakar Siddiki.
