Rab to probe Milky murder
The home ministry on Thursday handed over the charges of investigation into the murder of Jubo League leader Riazul Haque Khan Milky to Rapid Action Battalion.
Milky, 43, organising secretary of the Dhaka city (south) unit Jubo League, was shot dead allegedly by a party man in the capital’s Gulshan area early Tuesday.
The alleged murderer, Jahid Siddique Tarek, joint secretary of the same unit of Jubo League, in a dramatic development was killed in a “shootout” between his cohorts and Rab in the capital Wednesday night.
Habibur Rahman, director of Rab’s media wing, told The Daily Star that the home ministry's decision came in response to a request by the elite force.
He said the Rab on Wednesday sought the ministry's permission to probe the murder.
Tarek was caught on the closed-circuit camera at the entrance of Shoppers World in Gulshan as shooting Milky dead early Tuesday.
Milky’s brother Major Rashidul Haque filed a murder case with Gulshan Police Station Tuesday against 11 people, with Tarek listed as the prime suspect.
