Pressing that button might hurt you
I'm cereal (typo and it stays), apparently, when you do a lot of button pressing, you can hurt yourself. In general, this type of injury is placed under the broad term RSI (repetitive strain injury). It can happen in more ways than one and usually has something to do with the arm somewhere.
Ways to hurt yourself:
First of all, if you want to hurt yourself, you need to do any one of these for an extended period with no breaks.
* Texting a lot.
* Solving the Rubik's cube really fast (known as speedcubing).
* Clicking the mouse with your wrists at an awkward position (not straight).
* Waving glow sticks around at a rave.
* Shooting people. Virtually shooting people counts too, since you are using your trigger finger.
* Typing and button mashing. This is usually worse with keyboards than game controllers because game controllers are made to be “hand-friendly” whereas not all keyboards are ergonomic.
With all the above information, we can come to the dubious conclusion that raves are bad for you.
It's always fun to laugh at the misfortune of others so here are the idiots who've hurt themselves:
Rumman says,
Yeah, I was playing the bass wrong. I was supposed to play like this but I played it like this instead (for one position he bends his wrist towards him and for the other position he relaxes it a bit). And then my thumb and the muscle in my palm that moves my thumb cramped up. It was stuck like that for a month. No, I didn't take any medication, I just rested it.
Mohaimin says,
I was working out the biceps, doing fast repetitions with low weights to get that lean, ripped cut ... aaaand then my hand cramped up. It was stuck in that position for the entire day. It sucked.
Moshiur says,
It happened to me once or twice back when I used to play PS3 for 12 hours straight.
And did pain shoot through you like Wikipedia claims? Were you surprised it happened?
Nah, it just cramped up a bit and hurt for a while. I just massaged it a bit and it was fine. It came as no surprise. I realised it was due to excessive gaming. I would have been surprised if I had been playing for only 2 or 3 hours. I've gotten cramps, but I'm not much of a serious gamer, and PS3 controls are designed to limit any hand injury. Most of my friends who are serious PC gamers couldn't move their hands for hours 'cause it hurt a lot. None took medicine though (because real men don't). They just massaged it or placed ice on it or a hot water bag to calm the muscles down.
Your use of brackets in dialogue impresses me.
(Real men can do that).
Ala says,
Yeah, I know what RSI is. I used to have that. It happens to people who type a lot.
And you're ... a typist?
I used to type a lot. I don't anymore. Have you ever bought a keyboard? They write about this RSI stuff on the back of box. They list is as one of the features. Anti-RSI that is.
I will be sure to keep an eye out for it the next time I am searching for a keyboard. What would you type? Would you write stories? Keep a diary on you PC? Play those games on typing tutor? Or would you chat on messenger (because people did that back then)?
All of the above, except for the diary thing. Also, it is quite impressive how you managed to use brackets in a normal conversation.
(Real men can do that).
