No 'auto promotion': Nahid
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid
School students must appear and pass this year's final examinations to get promotion to the new class, Education Minister Nurul Islalm Nahid said today.
There will be no 'auto promotion', said the education minister at a hurriedly-called press conference at his secretariat office.
"Giving auto-promotion will set a bad example," Nahid said.
The education minister's comment came when several school authorities have been mulling to give the students auto-promotion as they are forced to change reschedule final examinations for several times due to the ongoing political situation in the country.
Guardians too are making such demands.
Mentioning that many schools across the country have completed holding annual exams, Nahid said examinations of some subjects are going on in high schools in the capital and in some other big cities.
"We are concerned about the schools in Dhaka," he said.
He, however, said the schools will find out a way to finish the exams and announce the results.
The education minister also urged the opposition parties to leave one week out of their programmes for finishing the exams.
