MP Rony's brother, 15 others sued on extortion charge
Sixteen people, including a brother of lawmaker Golam Maula Rony, have been sued on extortion charge in Galachipa of the district.
Abdul Mannan Howlader of Ulania Bazar under Ratandi-Taltali union filed the case with Galachipa Police Station on Saturday night.
Rony's brother Golam Sarwar, father-in-law Md Fazle Ali Khan, brother-in-law and also Chairman of Dakua Union Parishad (UP) in the upazila Mokbul Khan, are among the accused.
In the case statement, the complainant stated that the accused entered his house at around 8:00pm on July 25 and demanded Tk one lakh from him. As he refused to pay the money, Mahazib, one of accused, took away Tk 30,000 from a showcase.
The plaintiff further stated that the accused beat up his wife Fatima Begum and looted her gold ornaments.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) SM Ziaul Haque of Galachipa Police Station told this correspondent yesterday that they recorded the case against the accused. “After proper investigation, we will take necessary steps against the accused,” the OC said.
Members of a team that produces a crime-investigative show, Talash, for Independent TV visited Galachipa and Dashmina upazilas in the first week of July to collect information about alleged corruption of Rony, AL lawmaker from Patuakhali-3 constituency (Galachipa and Dashmina).
Locals said Mannan's interview with Talash team at Ulania Bazar in Galachipa had angered Rony's men, who later attacked his house.
