Delaying the Rohingya repatriation
Bangladesh gave shelter to the Rohingya refugees on humanitarian grounds, believing that they would soon be repatriated back to Myanmar with international assistance.
The delay has been caused by Myanmar's unwillingness to accept the Rohginyas back. From the very beginning, Bangladesh raised the issue on the international stage time and again, trying to urge Myanmar to take back its own citizens.
Unfortunately, it seems that Myanmar is trying to delay the process still. Myanmar has even gone so far as to blame Bangladesh for the delay which is preposterous.
Some reports have indicated that Myanmar is now making temporary shelters for the Rohingyas who would only be allowed back in Rakhine State once certain verification processes have been completed.
However, to solve this longstanding crisis, the Myanmar government must look to address the root causes that have created such a situation in the first place.
