Irrigation pump owners agitate

Irrigation pump owners of more than 12 villages in Sadar and Kalihati upazilas on Sunday held agitation at Power Development (PDB) office in the district town, demanding smooth supply of power.
The villages include Malancha, Ainapur, Char Khidir, Bhitor Shimul, Bahir Shimul, Khidirpara and Dhaliata under Sadar upazila and Jugipal, Durgapur and Chandpara under Kalihati upazila.
The pump owners alleged that they were not getting electricity more than one to one hour and half out of 24 hours.
Jahirul Islam, irrigation pump owner of Charkhidir village in Sadar upazila, said his motor was burnt five times this season due to the same problem and every time he had to spend Tk 6,000 for its repairing.
On Saturday, at least 13 motors were burnt due to frequent load shedding, said another owner, Shafi Siddique, of Durgapur village in Kalihati upazila.
