Man dies after being 'tortured, shot by BSF’ in Tentulia
A Bangladeshi man died on Tuesday night after allegedly being tortured and shot by the Indian Border Security Force along the Sukani border in Panchagarh's Tentulia upazila.
The deceased is Sujan Rana, 30, of Dangapara village of the upazila, reports our Thakurgaon correspondent quoting Officer-in-Charge of Tentulia Police Station Abu Sayed Chowdhury.
According to family members and locals, Sujan was shot by the BSF after being brutally tortured on early Tuesday. He was left on the Bangladesh side in a critical condition, they added.
After hours, locals rescued him and took him to a local clinic. Later in the evening, he died while he was being taken to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
On information, a team of Tentulia police recovered the body from the victim's house yesterday and sent it to Panchagarh Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
Quoting locals and family members, local UP member Aybul Islam told reporters that Sujan along with five to six other cattle traders had entered India on Monday night.
While returning early Tuesday, Sujan was caught by the members of Madanbari BSF camp. His associates managed to flee.
Tentulia OC Abu Sayed said the victim was shot in the abdomen and several injury marks were found on his body.
"It couldn't be confirmed how Sujan was killed or who tortured or shot him. Police are investigating the matter," 26 BGB Battalion Commanding Officer Lt Col Asaduzzaman Hakim told The Daily Star over the phone.
Based on the police report, we will take further action, he added.
