Grab a bite @ BIG BITE
We all like to eat well at a cheap price and “healthier” food is usually followed by a lengthy bill. So what do you do when your pockets aren't full but you want to spend some quality time with friends and quality food to go along with it? You go to BIG BITE, located right next to Eastern Plaza Mall in Dhaka.
BIG BITE started out sometime in the '80s and is a mix of a diner and a fast food joint. The checker tiles, furniture, hissing coffee maker and Elvis Presley posters all add to the '90s urban diner feel. It has a very casual, warm (mostly because the air conditioner is very old) and homely atmosphere while being able to accommodate and serve 30/40 people.
Now, BIG BITE does not have a wide range of food items. They basically serve the generic fast food items like fried chicken, sandwiches, cutlets, soup, and three types of burgers. And the fun part is that they all have individual names. For example, the single beef patty burger is called 'Big Mac', the double patty one is called 'Thunderstorm' and the behemoth three patty burger layered with cheese is called 'Cyclone' (a name that befits its structure). Prices range from Tk 50 to 250 (which is quite cheap if you consider the more recent fast food joints in Dhaka)
The burger I had there was the 'Thunderstorm', which was a double patty cheese burger served with a heap of fries and salad (2 pieces of cucumber). And to wash all that down I ordered a strawberry milkshake. The burger was not the best I had in Dhaka but it definitely beats the crispy chicken burgers we encounter everywhere. I would rate it a 3.5 out of 5. The portions were generous, and the huge glass of thick pink strawberry milkshake was exactly what I needed to gulp down that huge burger; all of that just under Tk 300.
All in all, BIG BITE is a great and friendly place to hangout. And their service is worth coming back for. The waiters do those tiny things like open your ketchup sachet for you that make you feel special. And they will always serve you with a smile. So now, when you and your friends are short on cash and need a good place to hang out, you know where to go.
