Jatiya Party chairman HM Ershad has expelled presidium member Kazi Jafar Ahmed today prompting the latter to announce similar action against the party chief.
“I have just signed the release order for Ahmed,” Bangla daily Prothom Alo quoted JP Chairman HM Ershad as announcing this afternoon.
Regretting that he spent a lot of money earlier for Jafar Ahmed’s treatment, Ershad said, “Now-a-days, he (Ahmed) issues statements against me in newspapers. He no longer belongs to my party.”
The JP chief was talking to newsmen at a hotel in the capital.
Ershad also expressed his doubt whether the next general elections would be held on the given date, the report added.
Meanwhile, Ahmed claimed that Ershad cannot expel him on the basis of a unilateral decision without a presidium meeting.
Talking to The Daily Star lying on a hospital bed, Ahmed claimed that he expelled Ershad from the party.
Asked, how he could expel Ershad depending on a unilateral decision, Jafar said a special council would be arranged according to the party constitution to expel Ershad from the party.
