BNP mayoral candidate aid shot

Bodyguard of BNP backed mayoral aspirant Ahsan Habib Kamal was injured as police opened fire in Barisal city on Wednesday evening.

Harun Ur Rashid, also an activist of Jatiyatabdi Juba Dal, was admitted Barisal Medical College Hospital, reports our staff correspondent.

Witnesses said, Harun received bullet injuries as he tried to save BNP backed candidate Kamal when police fired rubber bullets targeting him around 9:00pm at Buddho Para area in the city.

Kamal was engaged in an altercation with police after the law enforcers arrested five of his female supporters who were distributing leaflets in support of Kamal.

Kamal alleged that police worked in favour of Awami League supported candidate.

After the incident, 18-party alliance activists brought out several processions in the city protesting the police fire.

A tense situation has been prevailing in the city following the incident.
