Jubo League leader shot in Pirojpur pre-election violence
A local leader of Jubo League was shot today in a clash that broke out between supporters of two rival chairman candidates in the upcoming union parishad (UP) election to Shankarpara union in Sadar upazila of Pirojpur.
The injured, Foysal Mahbub Shuvo (32), general secretary of Pirojpur municipality unit Jubo League, is now receiving treatment at Khulna Medical College Hospital with bullet injuries on left shoulder, said Rana Saha, a physician of Pirojpur District Hospital.
Witnesses claimed the clash ensued when supporters of independent candidate attacked the followers of Awami League-backed chairman candidate Md Tofazzal Hossain Mallik near Mallikbari bus stand around 7:30pm.
The attackers allegedly opened fire on them injuring Shuvo, the people who were with him at the time, told our Pirojpur correspondent.
Molla Azad Hossain, additional superintendent of police (Crime and Administration) in Pirojpur, said Shuvo was injured with bullet wounds during a clash between the supporters of two chairman candidates.
Besides, several people, including Sadar upazila Swechhasebak League Vice-President Mehedi Hasan Sikdar, were also injured in the clash, added the police official.
