World Press Freedom Day 2023: Editors’ Council to hold discussion tomorrow

On the occasion of World Press Freedom Day 2023, the Editors' Council has organised a discussion on various issues to ensure freedom of expression of the media.
World Press Freedom Day is celebrated every year on May 3. This year's theme for the day is "Freedom of expression as a driver for all other human rights".
The Editors' Council will hold the discussion at the National Press Club's Abdus Salam Hall at 10:30am tomorrow.
The Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Hasanul Haque Inu, will be present there as the guest of honour.
According to Unesco, the right to free, free thought and expression is the core of human rights, the press release said.
"The Digital Security Act (DSA) has created panic to freedom of press and expression, which is also against the fundamental rights of the Constitution. In addition, new laws that may restrict freedom of expression are also under consideration by authorities."
"The Editors' Council believes that there is no alternative to free speech and freedom of expression if we want to realise the dream of Bangladesh in the future," the release added.
