They worked for the welfare of people
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today told parliament that Rebekah Momin and M Abdul Quddus, lawmakers who died recently, have always worked for the welfare of the people.
"Serving people is the greatest achievement. There is nothing greater than this. This is what is needed most for political leaders," she said urging all MPs to serve the people of their areas.
The prime minister was speaking at the obituary motion on the death of M Abdul Quddus, AL MP elected from Natore-4, and Rebeka Momin from Netrokona-4.
Sheikh Hasina said: "It is very sad that we used to start our parliament session with condolence motion. I thought this time might be an exception. But that didn't happen."
In this connection, she mentioned that a total of 28 MPs of this parliament have passed away so far, Of them 26 are from Awami League.
Recalling Abdul Quddus, she said, he was a student of Rajshahi University.
"He was involved in Chhatra League. He was very brave. Natore was a place of terror. He has been elected there repeatedly. He was very popular among people."
The prime minister said that she knew Rebeka Momin from her student life.
Sheikh Hasina said that the politics Awami League is for the welfare of the people.
PM said that her government is working for the welfare of the people of the country since the formation of the government.
"Our development trend has reached the grassroots stage. This is possible because the parliamentarians are performing their duties with utmost sincerity."
Referring to the development of the government, she said, "We have been able to elevate Bangladesh to the status of a developing country. Bangladesh has to improve more."
Deputy Leader of the House Matia Chowdhury, Amir Hossain Amu, among others, also on the condolence motion.
After the discussion, the obituary motion was adopted unanimously.
