Tangail free day observed
A 12-day celebration programme, marking the Tangail free day, began today amid festivity in the town.
Tangail was freed from the occupation of Pakistani Army on December 11, 1971.
On this day in 1971, freedom fighters (FFs) hoisted the national flag of independent Bangladesh after freeing Tangail from the Pakistani occupational forces.
To mark the historical day, Tangail municipality has taken a 12-day long, from December 11 to December 22, victory festival programme titled "Bijoy Utsab" at Shaheed Smrity Pouro Udyan in the town.
The Bijoy Utsab programme was inaugurated this morning by releasing balloons and pigeons. Later, a colourful procession was brought out in the town.
People from all walks of life, including freedom fighters, local public representatives, politicians, government officials and many other individuals took part in the procession that paraded the main roads of the town.
A discussion was also organised where Agriculture Minister Dr Abdur Razzaque, also presidium member of Awami League, addressed as the chief guest.
