Student found dead hours after reaching hostel in Dhaka’s Uttara
A student of Shaheen School and College in Uttara was found dead last night, hours after he arrived at the hostel to attend classes after one and half year long closure due to Covid-19 pandemic.
The deceased was identified as Abir Hossain Khan, a 10th grader from Nawabganj upazila in Dhaka.
School authorities said they found his body hanging from the window grill of room 701 in the evening and it is a case of suicide. Deceased's family, however, demanded impartial investigation into his death.
Abir's father took him to the hostel in the afternoon. Hours after his father left, the boy asked a maid working at the hostel for a phone, to talk to his parents, but she apparently refused. He then told her to call his family and ask them to take his body away, Sub-inspector Lal Mia of Uttara Paschim Police Station, wrote in the inquest report prepared on the body.
The woman rushed to the teachers and informed them about it. They hurried to his room and saw his body hanging from the window. He was immediately taken to Uttara Adhunik Hospital where doctors declared him dead, the SI said quoting the hostel authorities.
In the inquest report, the SI said the body bore no signs of injury except marks around his throat.
Deceased's father Fazlur Rahman Khan said there was nothing unusual about his son's behaviour when he accompanied him to the hostel from their house in the afternoon.
At night, the school authorities called him and said his son became unconscious. The father then rushed to the hospital and found his son dead.
Fazlur said his son could not have committed suicide.
Bakul Mia, director of the school, said they found his body hanging after the maid informed them of what the boy had said.
He said they did not know the cause of his death.
Police recovered the body from the private hospital last night and sent it to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue this morning for autopsy.
