Picked up by men in plain clothes: 2 Chhatra Odhikar Parishad leaders released
Two leaders of the Bangladesh Chhatra Odhikar Parishad, who were allegedly picked up by men in plainclothes from the capital's Gulistan area yesterday evening, were released last night.
Engr Mohammad Akhteruzzaman, deputy science and technology affairs secretary of the organisation and Nazmul Huda, organising secretary of Suhrawardy College unit Chhatra Odhikar Parishad, were released at 10:45pm, Abu Hanif, joint convenor and media coordinator of the organisation told The Daily Star.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Chhatra Odhikar Parishad held an emergency press conference in this regard at the Pritam Zaman Tower in Purana Paltan at 9:00pm yesterday and later brought out a procession demanding the immediate release of the two leaders.
They were picked up at 6:40pm from Fulbaria area by men in plainclothes who introduced them as members of the Detective Branch, said a press released earlier, signed by Bin Yamin Mollah, president of Bangladesh Chhatra Odhikar Parishad.
A scuffle ensued between the leaders and the men in plainclothes but later they were picked up in a pickup, according to the release.
DB Chief Harun Or Rashid told The Daily Star that he was not aware of the incident yet.
"I will give the details once it is available," he added.
