Constable's death: He was stabbed by muggers, says DB
Muggers attacked and stabbed police constable Moniruzzaman Talukder in the capital's Farmgate area before early yesterday, police said today.
Moniruzzaman was pronounced dead shortly after the attack.
The detective branch (DB) of police made the disclosure following the arrest of four people from different areas of the capital last night.
Md Golam Sobur, deputy commissioner of the Tejgaon Division of DB police, confirmed the development to The Daily Star this morning.
"We have arrested four and one of them admitted to his involvement in the attack. We are still conducting operations to arrest others and details will be disclosed later," added Sobur.
The first call reporting the 41-year-old constable's injuries was made at 4:15am on Saturday, said Anower Sattar, inspector (media) of the national emergency service.
A police team then rushed to the scene and took him to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.
Morgue sources said there were two stab injuries on his left leg and two on his left shoulder.
Moniruzzaman joined Bangladesh police in 2002. He is survived by his wife and two sons.
